Memorial Day 2011: Life after War
I would invite readers to go to the following article, written by a member of Give an Hour. It tells the poignant story of a war veteran, hopelessly lost to drugs and despair, trapped in post-traumatic stress disorder and with few resources to help (most petered out before she could recover). The story seemed too appropriate for Memorial Day not to share. Because I am blog inept, I don't quite know how to get a reading list to stay at the end of the page and not disappear from sight. Therefore, I entered it as my first post. I suppose that is not all that bad because readers started commenting about the books, even suggesting additional readings. So, you can participate with others in my reading list by clicking here.I do post additional books as I read them and find them to be meaningful to me, and therefore, hopefully, meaningful to you. One advantage of all the plane traveling I do is that I acquire reading time that I might not otherwise take.
My husband suffers PTSD. Living with it is indescribable.

I understand the difficulty, Val, and it is indescribable. My previous admin assistant suffered from it, too, and so many times he did self-defeating things. He latched onto me as a substitute mother figure, and I sent him to many different kinds of specialists, but in the end, he self-destructed in a way that was harmful to his wife and child. It was painful to watch and even more painful not to be able to help in any substantive way. May God watch over you and your husband. My prayers are with you.
